Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell recently announced Seattle University's Jackie Helfgott, PhD, as a member of an advisory panel that will bolster and enhance efforts to reform how the Seattle Police Department responds to sexual assault crimes. Helfgott, a professor in the Department of Criminal Justice, Criminology & Forensics and the director of the Crime & Justice Research Center, expects her comprehensive professional background in applied criminology and criminal justice research will complement the expertise of the other panel members in assisting SPD in reviewing and handling sexual assault cases. "My teaching, research and service has spanned the criminal justice system, including restorative justice and victim services with a focus on criminal behavior including violent and sex crime, criminal investigations and victim impact in criminal justice decision-making," explains Helfgott.
