Advanced outreach highly recommended* Projects Day, a celebration of Seattle University engineering, computer science and data science students creativity and problem solving, will take place on June 2. Projects Day is a culmination of students challenging themselves and their peers to work on a project requiring real solutions with sponsors that include large companies such as Costco and Amazon and smaller organizations from startups to nonprofits. In its 36th year, Projects Day is an annual event organized by the Project Center of SU's College of Science and Engineering. "Projects Day is a celebration of the accomplishments of our seniors and graduate students," explains College of Science and Engineering Dean Amit Shukla. "We are grateful to the industry sponsors and to our faculty advisors who have mentored the students throughout the past year. We are educating a generation of leaders in STEM who are ready to solve grand challenges with innovation and make an impact throughout the Puget Sound region and beyond." In total, 41 projects will be showcased with 47 total sponsors that include leaders in tech such as F5 Networks and public sector partners such as Camp Korey, Sound Transit, Snohomish County and Skagit County Parks and Recreation. Seattle University students provide partners with a fresh perspective through the Project Center, while the opportunity to engage with students and support their growth is a positive experience for partners and transformative for students. "In addition to our engineering and computer science projects, this is our first year featuring students from our Master of Data Science program," explains Projects Center director Rachael Brown. "We are excited to celebrate all they have achieved this year." As in years past, many items of interest will be on campus for attendees and students to consider, including a Kenworth truck, a newly designed and built steel bridge and several prototypes from mechanical, electrical and computer engineering teams, like biomedical devices, autonomous electric vehicle technology and health and wellness technology.
