Seattle U ranked 6th among 118 western regional universities that offer a full range of undergraduate, master's and select doctoral degree programs. "To consistently be ranked among the region's top universities is a distinct honor," says Provost Isiaah Crawford. "It is further testament to the teaching and scholarship of our accomplished faculty and the personalized, transformative experience they provide our students, as well as the increasingly integral role the university plays in shaping one of America's most vibrant regions." The rankings coincide with widespread recognition of the university's significant achievements in academics, campus experience, athletics and commitment to service and social justice as a Jesuit Catholic university. Seattle U also received high marks from U.S. News for being a "best value" schools in the West. Among the magazine's specialty rankings, The Albers School of Business and Economics ranked 11th in finance - tops in the Northwest - and was tied for 13th in accounting. Overall, Albers was #36 among private business schools nationwide. The College of Science and Engineering ranked #33 among all engineering schools in the U.S. that offer a bachelor's or master's degree. Seattle U was also ranked #6 in the West for best colleges for veterans. The U.S. News rankings are based on graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student/faculty ratio, student selectivity, financial resources, graduation rate performance and alumni giving. Washington Monthlyevaluates institutions based on their contributions to the public good in the areas of social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and PhDs) and service (encouraging students to give something back to their country). Among master's universities, Seattle University ranks #3 in the nation for the number of staff supporting community service, the number of academic courses that incorporate service as well as scholarships for community service. The university is also in the top 10 based on the number of alumni who go on to serve in the Peace Corps, relative to school size.
