We are continually improving our campus facilities to provide services and accommodations for students who are parents. If you have suggestions for how we can better meet your needs, please don't hesitate to reach out to us, the Student Health Center, your Student Government of Seattle University and the Graduate Student Council. These bodies are best poised to carry your voice to those who can help improve services for students who are parents.
The Student Health Center provides primary care services for all SU students with many service fees at or below $20. Refer to Student Health Center's website for associated costs, Fee Sheet, and service questions. Among an array of services, the Student Health Center can conduct:
SU maintains Lactation Rooms in the Sinegal Center, room 265, the Administration Building, room 200 and the Garrand Building, room 101. Please contact our office via email, call us at (206)296-6291 or contact Public Safety (206)296-5990 for the access code.
We also encourage you to speak with your faculty or supervisor if you work on campus to see if there are spaces to breast-feed if you choose to bring your child to school. Contact us if you have questions concerning how to navigate this conversation!
The Seattle Milk Fund provides child care grants and family support to low-income, full-time students at King County’s colleges and universities. While parents are in school, their children receive a valuable learning opportunity in a licensed, quality child care facility or preschool. Seattle Milk Fund helps parents realize their higher education potential, which can create a brighter and more stable financial future for their families.
Seattle University has established a food pantry to assist SU community members experiencing food insecurity and hunger. The pantry is located in the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Pavilion 180. For more information, please visit their website.
Every SU student is eligible for free and confidential, short-term therapy through Counseling and Psychological Services in Pigott Pavilion 120. CAPS' team of professional and licensed physicians and therapists can help you explore issues of becoming a parent, maintaining healthy relationships and managing self-care. CAPS also offers quarterly group sessions around mindfulness, anxiety, understanding self, relationships and masculinity.
Changing tables can be found throughout campus in women's, men's and gender-neutral restrooms. Please find the locations on this list: Changing Tables 1-20.
Off-campus housing options are available for all students. However, our housing options do not currently include family units. The Seattle Housing Authority frequently works with SU students and can help you find low-cost accommodations in the greater Seattle area.
