Dear Seattle University Community,
I am writing on behalf and as part of a campus community committed to diversity, inclusion and being welcoming and supportive of all students, faculty and staff. It is especially important to reaffirm these core values for our international students and community members in light of yesterday’s Supreme Court decision and recent immigration policies separating families.
The Trump administration’s travel restrictions and actions relating to migrants coming to the United States seeking a better life for their families have run counter to these values we embrace, uphold and view as central to Seattle University’s mission. We are a community of scholars, learners and leaders for a just and humane world who strive every day to put the good of students first. The care, safety and well-being of all our students, faculty and staff is paramount to who we are and what we stand for as a Catholic and Jesuit university.
I know you join me in reaffirming our commitment to our international students and community members. We are grateful for the many contributions they make to our educational mission and campus community. We will continue to support them in every way possible.
Sincerely,
Stephen V. Sundborg, S.J.
President
