Critical to the support and advocacy of the university’s sustainability measures such as these is the Center For Environmental Justice And Sustainability (CEJS) and the work of Sustainability Manager Yolanda Cieters.
Seattle University continues its run of top rankings for sustainability by once again being named a Sierra Cool School for 2021. It earned a spot in Sierra magazine’s Top 20—placing in the top 4 percent overall—and is the only university in the Northwest to make it in the top group.

Ensconced in the Jim and Janet Sinegal Center for Science and Innovation is the Convergence Zone café, an all-plant based eatery. Here visitors can grab a Sambazon Acai bowl, Dillanos fair trade coffee and UNFI plant-based snacks, butter, cream cheese and more. These brands were chosen because the companies believe in sustainability and better plant-based food, says Emily Henspeter, marketing manager for Chartwells, which operates Redhawk Dining.
