Teaching and Research Interests
Dr. Shuman currently works on rapid and low-energy input dewatering of microalgae and on innovative teaching that enhances student learning. Her research is published in leading peer-reviewed journals and textbooks, and her papers won best paper awards at ASEE Annual Conferences. She serves her professional and larger community with paper reviews, committee and board memberships.
Biography
Dr. Shuman received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Belgrade University, Yugoslavia, M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Ph.D. from the University of Washington, Seattle. Her doctoral dissertation focused on NOx and CO Formation for Lean-Premixed Methane-Air Combustion in a Jet-Stirred Reactor Operated at Elevated Pressure.
Dr. Shuman and the ME faculty and staff have created a culture of engineering with engineers that fosters the inclusion of all students, faculty, and staff under the funding of the prestigious $1.86 million NSF RED grant. Seattle U mechanical engineering students, staff, and faculty are immersed in doing engineering with engineers in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
