Día de los Muertos Altars Around Campus
Posted: October 31, 2022
On All Souls' Day and throughout the month of November, Christians remember with love those who have died and pray in hope for them. Here at Seattle University, we mark this month with altars erected around campus for Día de los Muertos.
Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a cultural celebration rooted in indigenous and Christian traditions celebrated throughout Mexico and parts of Latin America and is a time to celebrate and reconnect with our ancestors and loved ones who have died.
We pray that all those who have died may be embraced by God, and that all those who mourn may be comforted. We encourage all members of the SU community to visit the altars, add pictures of their loved ones and write their loved ones’ names in the book displayed in the Chapel. There will be an altar on the first floor of the Student Center, built by members of MECHA, and another altar in the Chapel, built by members of the Chapel community.
