Humanitarian Support for the People of Ukraine

Posted: March 18, 2022

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

The thoughts and prayers of the entire Seattle University community are with all those affected by the war in Ukraine. We express our solidarity with the people of Ukraine and we pray for peace. As previously shared, there are a number of campus resources available for students, faculty and staff who may be struggling during these times.

The war is creating a humanitarian crisis. More than three million people have fled Ukraine to nearby countries and an estimated 18 million — a third of the country’s population — will need humanitarian assistance.

Wondering how you can help? Here’s three trusted organizations to support.

  • Jesuit Refugee Service continues to monitor the situation in Europe as the countries surrounding Ukraine respond to those fleeing the war and violence. JRS has created a special website that explains the coming refugee crisis and how you can help.

  • Caritas Internationalis is a confederation of over 160 member organizations who are working at the grassroots in almost every country of the world. When a crisis hits, Caritas is already on the ground. This is the case in Ukraine and surrounding countries that are taking in thousands of refugees. Learn more here about Caritas’ work in Ukraine and how to donate.

  • The Red Cross is providing life-saving aid to those in need — both in the country and in neighboring areas. Around the clock, teams are providing emergency aid including food and hygiene parcels, first aid, medicine, blankets, and evacuation support. Learn more here about the Red Cross’ work in Ukraine and how to donate.

In the coming days there may be more opportunities to give and support through projects led by College of Nursing students. A special thank you to Danuta Wojnar (Associate Dean, College of Nursing) for informing and inspiring our campus to act.

Please consider giving today.

Sincerely,
