Join Women in Mission This Year
Posted: September 15, 2023
We are pleased to announce this year that the Center for Jesuit Education is reviving Women in Mission, a supportive community for all SU faculty, staff and administrators to gather regularly for reflection, volunteer service and community-building, in an effort to engage with and embody the Jesuit Catholic mission of Seattle University.
Our hope this year is to come together monthly, including the following events each quarter:
- Leadership lunches with panelists to help us explore the gifts and challenges of being a woman who leads
- Solidarity and Storytelling circles to go deeper with the year’s themes in community
- In-person and asynchronous events specifically for our Women of Color in Mission affinity group
What exactly will be offered depends on the ideas, energy and efforts of the women involved!! To that end, we would like to invite you to consider joining a new Women in Mission Advisory Team, a group of about 6-8 faculty and staff interested in helping to plan and implement the first two kinds of events.
This broader Women in Mission Advisory Team (WIM) will collaborate with a Women of Color in Mission (WOCIM) advisory team already underway - thanks to the leadership of Dr. Paige Gardner - so that women of color can attend all Women in Mission events and also be a member of this WIM Advisory Team if desired.
What time would be involved for the WIM Advisory Team?
- Attend two full working group meetings per quarter to discuss the overall vision/plan for the quarter and to debrief events. Likely Fridays at lunchtime (first lunch on Friday, Sept. 29 from noon to 1:30 p.m.; 60 mins thereafter). Lunch provided!
- Choose which quarter you’re most available; attend a smaller work group meeting to plan that quarter’s event. Meeting date/time depends on who volunteers that quarter.
- Attend events as able.
- Invite others to the Women in Mission events!
This is a great way to contribute your gifts toward a community that brings a rich sense of belonging and meaning to work life at Seattle University, and to get to know wonderful women across campus.
If you have questions and/or are interested in being part of this year’s Women in Mission Advisory Team, please contact Andrea Fontana at fontanan@seattleu.edu by Mon, Sept 25.
If you are interested in attending our events, please contact womeninmission@seattleu.edu to be notified when events get scheduled.
Please spread the word to other colleagues who might be interested. We look forward to seeing you this year, whenever you are able!
