Invitation from President Peñalver:
Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
I am writing with an invitation to celebrate an important, recent commitment by Seattle University.
As many of you are aware, the University has committed to institutional participation in the “Seven-Year Journey Toward Integral Ecology” through the Laudato Si Action Platform. We have made this commitment in response to the call by Pope Francis in his encyclical “Laudato Si” to envision sustainability in the holistic spirit of integral ecology and to redefine and rebuild our relationship with each other and our common home.
I am hopeful and excited about the educational and operational opportunities this commitment will bring. Seattle University’s inaugural Laudato Si Steering Committee has, under the leadership of Chair Dr. Jeanette Rodriguez, done tremendous work in establishing a baseline for the University, conducting a self-assessment, creating a proposed action plan, and forming a structure that will effectively guide the University’s efforts in this new initiative.
I invite you to inaugurate the Laudato Si Action Platform with the Seattle University community on Thursday, October 20 from 3-5:30 p.m. in the Le Roux Conference Room, Student Center 160. Join me and the Laudato Si campus partners to learn about and celebrate our community’s participation in the “Seven-Year Journey Toward Integral Ecology.” ICTC is celebrating the launch with a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception.
For planning purposes, the favor of a reply to ictc@seattleu.edu would be appreciated.
Warm regards,
Eduardo
