Law School Faculty Receives Grant to Research Firearm-Related Harm

Dr. Deirdre Bowen, Moccasin Lake Foundation Endowed Chair and Professor of Law and Director of the Seattle Family Law Center, will collaborate with faculty from Seattle Children’s Hospital and the University of Washington on a new project sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Preventing Firearm-related Harm through Domestic Violence Protection Order Firearm Prohibitions and Relinquishment will evaluate the effectiveness of implementing domestic violence protection order (DVPO) firearm prohibitions in reducing subsequent firearm-related crime, injury and death of victim-survivors/petitioners, protected minors and respondents.
