Price traces the roots of this lie in the United States to the legacies of Puritanism, the institution of slavery, industrialization and our current digital work culture that blurs boundaries between work and life. Using in-depth research, Price outlines how a hatred of laziness has poisoned almost every aspect of modern life - from work, to school, to our relationships - and shaped the framing of social problems such as addiction, homelessness and the COVID-19 pandemic.
