NPLR 5430: Fundraising and Philanthropy

Fundraising is essential to the work of the nonprofit sector and serves as a crucial link between donors and organizations. In this course, students will learn to analyze trends, assess opportunities, develop effective and ethical fundraising strategies, integrate fundraising into the larger strategic vision of the organization and inspire others to action.
This course is designed to provide you with a thorough foundation in both the principles and practices of fundraising, while also considering issues of social justice, racial equity, ethics and leadership. Through a series of discussions and assignments, you will have the opportunity to apply fundraising concepts, techniques and questions to a specific nonprofit organization and build inclusive and equitable fundraising practices. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:
- Foster and support a culture of philanthropy across an organization and its constituencies.
- Demonstrate knowledge of ethical and effective fundraising strategies, practices, and frameworks, including opportunities and risks associated with each prospective channel.
- Conduct an audit of an existing fundraising program to identify opportunities, resolve problems, and inform future planning.
- Design fundraising strategy that supports an organization’s strategic goals.
