Update (01/25/24): Please note that the following event, which was originally scheduled for Jan. 25, has been postponed to Feb. 21, as updated below.
Wednesday, Feb. 21, 4-6 p.m.
Casey Commons
Professor of English Sean McDowell, author of Metaphysical Shadows: The Persistence of Donne, Herbert, Vaughan, and Marvell in Contemporary Poetry, will read poems from his recently published collection, Learning to Jump, as well as additional new work. Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing.
Learning to Jump seeks what sustains us during troubled times. Here are celebrations of making and of things well-made, expressions of gratitude, acts of preservation, and meditations on the “befores” and “afters” defining peoples’ lives. Only by paying attention can we trust our leaps and the ground we land on.
Sponsored by the English Department and Creative Writing Program.
