Mission Day

Dear Colleagues, 

As we look toward spring quarter, I’d like to invite you to mark your calendars for Mission Day on Thursday, April 7. As you know, classes are traditionally canceled on this morning in order for us to come together and reflect on our shared educational mission. 

This year’s theme is “Looking Forward in Hope,” and we will explore together Seattle University’s reignited strategic vision to be an “innovative and progressive Jesuit and Catholic university.” To honor your time, we have slimmed down the program and will begin at 10 a.m. in Pigott Auditorium, with a light breakfast available just prior to the program, at 9:30 a.m. We will conclude at noon for lunch and further conversation. More details on the program and panelists will be forthcoming.  

Please note this will be an in-person event. A recording will be available shortly afterward.

Additional Information (Updated March 31)

On Thursday, April 7, we will have the opportunity to gather as a community for the first time in many months for Mission Day. The theme is “Looking Forward in Hope” and we will hear from President Eduardo Peñalver and several faculty, staff and students who will inspire our thinking about what’s ahead for Seattle University in light of our strategic vision to be an “innovative and progressive Jesuit Catholic university.” 

As is our tradition, classes are canceled before 1:30 p.m. and non-essential offices are closed during the event to accommodate your participation.

• Stacey Jones, Senior Instructor, Economics
• Marrakech Maxwell, President, Student Government of Seattle University
• Dan Tamayo, President of the Graduate Student Council
• John Topel, SJ, Professor Emeritus
• Charles Tung, Professor of English and Special Assistant to the Provost

Mission Day will be held in Pigott Auditorium. Feel free to arrive at 9:30 a.m. for conversation, coffee and light breakfast in PACCAR Atrium. In the spirit of our Ignatian heritage, there will be an opportunity for those attending to reflect via a visual display in PACCAR. 

Mission Day will formally begin at 10 a.m. and will close at noon for lunch and continued conversation. This in-person event will be recorded and posted online soon afterward.
