Open Enrollment and Your 2023 Benefits

Dear benefit-eligible Faculty and Staff:
Welcome to Seattle University’s Benefits Open Enrollment for 2023. Open Enrollment is your annual opportunity to ensure your health and welfare benefits provide the necessary coverage for you and your family for the upcoming calendar year.
2023 Premiums
Seattle University will continue its commitment to subsidize the cost of your health insurance at very competitive rates while maintaining a comprehensive suite of benefits for faculty, staff, and their families. This includes continuing to offer salary-based contributions with a greater subsidy for our less highly paid faculty and staff. In 2023, the University will subsidize 75.3% and $13.5 million of the anticipated total insurance costs for faculty, staff, and their families.
Seattle University has experienced a consistent increase in utilization across all medical plans for the past three years. Coupled with the rising costs of healthcare, this has led to a higher renewal for 2023. Both employee and employer contributions to premiums have been adjusted as a result.
Faculty and Staff will see changes in their employee contributions to premiums for 2023 as follows:
- Kaiser HMO plan – employee contributions will increase approximately 7.1% for all tiers and coverage levels. The deductible will increase from $0 to $250 for employee only coverage, and from $0 to $500 for family coverage.
- Aetna HSA plan – employee contributions will increase approximately 16.9% for all tiers and coverage levels. The employer HSA contribution will decrease from $1,000 to $750 for employee only coverage, and from $2,000 to $1,500 for family coverage.
- Aenta PPO plan – employee contributions will increase approximately 18.8% for all tiers and coverage levels.
- VPS Vision core and enhanced plans- employee contributions will increase approximately 4.0% for all tiers and coverage levels.
Employee contributions for Delta Dental will remain the same in 2023. You can view your individual premiums online through PlanSource, or on the benefit website.
Key Dates
Open Enrollment takes place between Tuesday November 1 and Tuesday November 15, 2022.
You will find all the details regarding your personal options, costs and enrollment in PlanSource: https://benefits.plansource.com. Your username is your full SU email. Your password has been reset to your date of birth in the format: YYYYMMDD.

- Tuesday, November 1 from 12:30 – 1:30: Aon (Zoom link)

Enrollment Actions
If you take no action during Open Enrollment, your current benefit elections will continue into 2023- with the exception of enrollment in flexible spending accounts and semi-monthly employee contribution amounts to the health savings account.
In order to maintain enrollment in a Health Care FSA or a Dependent Care FSA, you will need to re-enroll each year during open enrollment.
Unlike an FSA, you will maintain enrollment in your HSA if you do not take any action during open enrollment. However, your semi-monthly employee contribution will be reset to $0 effective January 1, 2023. To avoid the reset, re-select your employee HSA contribution amount during open enrollment. You can change your employee HSA contribution amount at any point throughout the year by completing a life event in PlanSource. If you choose to stay enrolled in the HSA plan for 2023, you will still receive the semi-monthly employer HSA contribution amount starting January 1, 2023 regardless of if you take action during open enrollment or not.
Please note: The maximum amount that may be contributed to a Health Care FSA will increase to $3,050 in 2023 while the maximum amount that may be contributed to a Dependent Care FSA will remain $5,000. The Flexible Spending Accounts do not rollover year to year, with the exception of $570 of unused Health Care FSA funds.
Ending Trustmark Enrollment
Seattle University will not be offering new enrollment into Trustmark Long Term Care Plans during 2023 open enrollment and going forward. Payroll deductions for faculty and staff who are currently enrolled in a Trustmark plan will continue to be supported until separation from Seattle University occurs. Upon separation, enrollees have the option to port their policy with no charge to premium or benefits amount. Contact Trustmark at 800-918-8877 to initiate the change to direct bill.
Well-Being Resources
Many of us have faced novel challenges during the past few years related to personal well-being and caring for our families. Your university benefits program continues to offer well-being resources that are available at no cost to all faculty, staff, and family members whether living in Seattle or elsewhere in the U.S.
- Resources for Living is our Employee Assistance Program that provides emotional well-being support, financial services, legal services, and daily life assistance. You and your family members can access up to 9 counselling sessions per issue per year.
- Cariloop provides caregiving support and resources targeted to relieve the stress of balancing one’s work with caring for loved ones. Caregivers are paired with a Care Coach who will provide dedicated one-on-one guidance and support specific to your family’s needs.
- eMindful is an online program that provides mindfulness solutions. Creating personalized strategies to integrate into your daily life.
