Posted: March 14, 2022
Teodora Shuman, professor and chair of Department of Mechanical Engineering, joined four other leaders in engineering education and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers to organize the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Education Leadership Summit, held on March 10 and 11. The summit was attended by nearly 400 department heads, chairs, program directors and other leaders in mechanical engineering education.
Shuman also presented at the summit on the revolution that the Mechanical Engineering Department at Seattle University has undergone since they received a $1.86 million grant from the National Science Foundation in 2017. Those interested in learning how the department is changing its culture through innovative curriculum and pedagogy and by implementing novel processes for promoting inclusion and creating a sense of belonging, please e-mail me@seattleu.edu. This work is a joint effort of faculty, staff and students in the Mechanical Engineering Department, Kathy Cook, professor and chair of the Psychology Department at Seattle University and Jennifer Turns, professor and associate chair in the Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering at the University of Washington.
