Finding your inner techie: a radical-democratic perspective on AI
with Onur Bakiner, Ph.D., Department of Political Science
Tuesday, Nov. 28, 12:30–1:30 p.m.
Pigott Auditorium

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is excited to invite you to the Fall Quarter installment of Red Talks! All community members—students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends—are invited to the first Red Talk of the academic year.

This talk invites hard conversations between computer scientists and social scientists & humanists, tool makers and tool users, lawmakers and ordinary citizens and tech workers and rights activists about the future of AI. Seemingly technical problems are manifestations of underlying economic, political, cultural and social issues; how we hope to solve them reveals much about how we want to treat machines, nature, and ultimately, fellow humans. Defying common portrayals of AI as an expert field that outsiders cannot grasp, let alone influence, Dr. Bakiner suggests a radical-democratic perspective, acknowledging that everyone has an interest in, and skills for, shaping the future of AI.
