Welcome Back from the SU Writing Center
Posted: September 27, 2022
Dear Colleagues,
We are delighted to welcome you back. We hope your classes are off to a great start.
Below are some of the offerings the Writing Center has for students and faculty.
The Writing Center will operate in a hybrid model offering in-person as well as virtual synchronous and asynchronous consultations starting Monday, Sept. 26.
For Students
In-person & virtual (synchronous and asynchronous) individual consultations
Undergraduate and graduate peer consultants are available to support students in one-on-one consultations at any stage of the writing process. Our team can support students in brainstorming, planning, outlining, integrating resources, etc. Recently, the center integrated screencasting into the asynchronous consultations. Students who prefer audio feedback can now select screencasting as they upload their documents for asynchronous consultations. To schedule a consultation, students can create an account at https://seattleu.mywconline.com
The instant chat on the Writing Center page is staffed during our regular hours. Students can also reach out via virtual phone (206) 296-6239 or e-mail writingcenter@seattleu.edu
The Welcome to the Writing Center Video describes the available services and walks students through a step-by-step tutorial on how to access them.
For Faculty
Faculty members can also receive feedback on assignment prompts from a student’s perspective. As students themselves and as consultants who support other students in reading and unpacking assignment prompts, the writing consultants can provide insightful feedback to faculty members. If you are interested, check out more details at https://www.seattleu.edu/writingcenter/resources/faculty-feedback-service/
Class visits
The writing consultants offer class visits and facilitate writing workshops. To request a class visit, fill out our class visit form at https://www.seattleu.edu/writingcenter/resources/classvisit/#form
Placing your request early will allow us to plan our staffing.
Handouts and other resources
The Writing Center has developed several useful handouts and writing resources that you are welcome to duplicate/adapt and use in your classes or to refer students to:

Writing Center blog, podcast
Be sure to check out our blog, podcast for topics on writing, life, self-care and social justice.
Writing Events & Updates will be posted on social media @suwritingcenter regularly. The application to writing center peer consultants positions will be available later this fall. If you have students who might be interested, don’t hesitate to refer them.
