Monica graduated from CK McClatchy High School in Sacramento, CA. She was the Editor-in-Chief of the school paper and president of the Ecology Club, where she led a team to acquire funding for upgrading campus infrastructure to be more environmentally sustainable. Monica swam on the varsity team and swam from Alcatraz Island to Aquatic Park in San Francisco as a fundraiser for marine conservation research. She was a core team member for an environmental education camp that provided access to an outdoors experience for elementary students and was a teen representative for a fundraiser in support of a shelter for Asian and Pacific Islander women and children impacted by domestic violence.
Monica is currently studying sociology and mathematics. When not doing homework, she supports programming and initiatives on campus that work to undo patterns of marginalization and oppression. She also works at the Center for Environmental Justice and Sustainability, where she works to incorporate and amplify a race and class framework. She is grateful for the intentional self-reflection that the Sullivan community fosters because that foundation helps guide how she moves through the world.
