Emmah Ferguson graduated from Hockinson High School in Battle Ground, WA, where she was a Running Start student. She was a member of the Speech and Debate, swim, wrestling and cross-country teams at her high school, and served as Student Body President and as a tutor at Clark College. Emmah worked as an intern with the Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce, volunteered with Healing Winds Therapeutic Riding Center and, for 4 years, served on the Clark County Youth Commission where she developed and moderated the public forum “The Solution to Bullying in our Community.” As a teacher at Congregation Kol Ami, Emmah taught young children about their Jewish identity through bible stories and cultural traditions found in art, music, and cooking.

SU Experience

Emmah is majoring in Biochemistry and Comparative Religion. Emmah will be going to Haiti this winter to provide and disaster relief with a Jewish NGO, the JDC. She was very active in her hometown through the Clark County Youth Commission, a group that gave youth a voice in public policy, and through her synagogue, Congregation Kol Ami, where I taught Sunday school and Hebrew. She loves Seattle University because it is very inclusive of all people from all walks of life and backgrounds and is in a beautiful location!
