Mia Kato graduated from Newport High School in Bellevue, WA. Mia was the co-founder and a member of DECA and the coordinator of the Hunger Project Club. She was in her school’s marching band and served as a volunteer with Families for Effective Autism Treatment, and at the Chicago chapter of One Laptop Per Child. She has served as a teen docent for the Bellevue Arts Museum as well as a flute and reading tutor. Mia was a member of the Newport Speech and Debate team where she was very successful in policy debates, earning 1st place at the Snohomish High School Tournament.
Mia is majoring in Economics and International Studies with a minor in Spanish. She is a member of the Seattle University Debate Union and frequently competes in regional and national tournaments. She volunteers at Community Capital Development, an organization that provides financial assistance to local businesses particularly those run by women and veterans. She also volunteers at Neighborhood House, an organization that provides social services to underrepresented communities in Seattle. She will be studying abroad in Puebla, Mexico during the winter and spring of this year.
