Kayla Okonu attends Saint John’s Preparatory School in St. Joseph, MN and plans to study Psychology. In high school, she has explored a wide range of leadership opportunities. She shone on stage in several of her high school musical productions, sang in the Cantanti Youth Chorale of Central MN, and served as an advocate and leader in student government, the social justice club, and the world club. Her dream is to provide resources to BIPOC students in rural areas, like herself, who do not see themselves represented in their schools and in their governments. She has advocated at the state level presenting to Minnesota’s Attorney General, tutored younger students, and works to improve the experience for other Black students at her predominately white school.
